MIAMI (March 21st, 2018) – To celebrate Earth Day, Sachamama, a nonprofit organization working to advance a clean energy economy for all and a culture of sustainable behaviors and lifestyles, announces the organization’s first fundraising Green Gala Awards in Miami. It will be a night to honor our culture of conservation where organizations, artists, musicians, community members, and other Latino leaders come together to take a stand on climate change and celebrate our planet to the rhythm of the Mexican rock band, Maná.
Sachamama will use the event to amplify the launch of a social media campaign to activate Latinos on climate action using the hashtags #LatinosPorLaTierra and #TonightWeTakeAStand to mobilize and show their support for action on climate change. Sachamama plans to invest in developing leadership in our communities — hosting educational workshops in key states where Latinos live in high concentrations, leading up to taking our message straight to Washington D.C.
Today, more than half of U.S. Latinos live in communities affected by climate change. Record-shattering hurricanes have ravaged Puerto Rico, Florida, and Texas — destroying roads, homes, and livelihoods. In the West, devastating wildfires burned through California for several weeks. At the same time, in states across the country, clean technologies like wind and solar are developing good middle-class jobs, and creating opportunities for prosperity and a clean and sustainable future. The event will send a strong message about how Latino leadership within the climate movement is key in taking a stand to moving the world forward towards a clean and sustainable future for all. We will be honoring the leadership of former Vice President Al Gore, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Maná, Mr. Sydney from Kitson & Partners and Ms. Adrianna Quintero from Voces Verdes.
The evening will start a 7PM EST with a green carpet and present a highly-coveted selection of items at a silent and live auction, cocktails, and a dinner, all to benefit Sachamama’s programs and campaigns.
