MIAMI – October 12, 2015 – TELEMUNDO’s first-ever Latin American Music Awards reached a cumulative audience of 3,800,000 total viewers and 1,800,000 adults 18-49, according to Nielsen. The inaugural show, hosted by international superstar Lucero and featuring top musical acts such as Daddy Yankee, Paulina Rubio, and Yandel with Lil Jon, and a heartfelt musical tribute to Celia Cruz, averaged 2,080,000 total viewers and 997,000 adults 18-49. The red carpet special “La Alfombra de los Latin American Music Awards” delivered 1,760,000 total viewers and 753,000 adults 18-49.
Locally, “Latin American Music Awards” ranked as the #1 show in its time slot, regardless of language, among adults 18-49 in Miami and Houston.
Digitally, the star-studded awards show, ranked as the #1 most socially engaging program for the night on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram across all US Hispanic networks with 267K mentions. Facebook posts promoting “Latin American Music Awards” reached a total of 12.1 million users worldwide, generating 160k actions, becoming a worldwide trend. The hashtag #LatinAMAs was a worldwide trending topic across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram generating a total of 118k instances across all social platforms. Traffic for the show generated nearly 1.3 million page views, and 191k video streams.
Enrique Iglesias was the top winner of the night with five awards including the coveted Artist of the Year and Favorite Male Artist awards. His collaboration on Nicky Jam’s “El Perdón” won in the categories of Song of the Year Favorite Collaboration and Favorite Streaming Song, earning three awards for Nicky Jam. Artists that won two awards include: Daddy Yankee for Favorite Male Artist-Urban and Favorite Song-Urban for his hit single “Sígueme y te Sigo”; Duo Gente de Zona was awarded Favorite Duo or Group-Urban and Favorite Song-Tropical for “La Gozadera”; Julion Alvarez y su Norteño Banda earned Favorite Duo or Group-Regional Mexican and Favorite Song-Regional Mexican for “Y Así Fue”; Ricky Martin earned Album of the Year for “A Quien Quiera Escuchar” and Favorite Song-Pop/Rock for “La Mordidita”. Single award winners include: Demi Lovato for Favorite Crossover Artist; Gloria Trevi was named Favorite Female Artist; Romeo Santos earned Favorite Artist-Tropical, while Selena Gomez and Zedd won Favorite Dance Song with “I Want You To Know.” Camila was named Favorite Duo or Group-Pop/Rock; Luis Coronel won Favorite Male Artist-Regional Mexican; Marc Anthony received Favorite Song-Tropical for his collaboration on Gente de Zona’s “La Gozadera;” and Yotuel earned an award for Favorite Song-Pop/Rock for his collaboration on “La Mordidita”. The award for New Artist of the Year went down to the wire with the audience continuing to vote during the live ceremony and J Balvin emerged as the winner.
